Kosovo hopes to negotiate with unrecognized EU countries

First Deputy Prime Minister of the internationally unrecognized Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Pislemi, said that the republic’s authorities hope to resolve conflicts with European countries that still do not recognize it.

This is stated in his official statements on the eve of the country’s application for EU membership, as Kosovo hopes to resolve differences with five EU member states that may prevent its accession.

This comes amid statements by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić last Saturday that the Kosovar Albanian authorities would “loudly” apply for European Union membership on December 15, in violation of European Union standards and agreements. earlier., including in Brussels itself, and through the administration of former US President Donald Trump in Washington.

Vučić added that he would send messages to the leaders of the five EU member states that do not recognize Kosovo’s independence (Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Slovakia and Romania), noting that, according to EU rules, only sovereign European states can apply for membership. , and a self-proclaimed republic. I don’t like this situation.

Bislemi, citing the website Kosovo Online, said: “Countries that have not recognized Kosovo’s independence will not create problems for them on their way to the European Union, and since accession is a long process, I am sure that by then we will be ready.” . To resolve all the differences that prevent these countries from agreeing and recognizing Kosovo, this would be an irrelevant question.”

The Serbian leadership had previously received assurances from representatives of five EU member states (Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Romania and Slovakia) to maintain their position and not support the unilateral recognition of Kosovo’s independence.

For his part, the chairman of the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija of the Serbian Parliament, Milovan Dritsson, said that the self-proclaimed Kosovo authorities, with the support of the European Union and the United States of America, are promoting an unacceptable “Franco-German” proposal to introduce the issue of de facto recognition of the independence of Pristina (the capital of Kosovo) and its admission to the UN on the agenda of negotiations with Belgrade in Brussels.
