Japan expands sanctions against Russia

The Japanese government has decided to expand its sanctions against Russia following similar steps by the United States and Canada.

According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the decision was announced during the meeting of the leaders of the “big seven” (G7) countries on Friday, which was announced by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

The new sanctions will include freezing the assets of Russian citizens, organizations and financial institutions. The list of items prohibited for export will also be expanded.

Japanese sanctions imposed in several stages in connection with the Russian special operation affected more than 900 people and more than 50 organizations in Russia.
