Israeli Foreign Ministry warns against pilgrimage to Ukraine

In a statement, the Israeli Foreign Ministry warned against traveling to Ukraine, urging Israeli citizens to refrain from visiting it, including visiting the famous Jewish pilgrimage site in the city of Uman.

In a statement, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said: “Due to the war and ongoing hostilities between Russian and Ukrainian troops, the Foreign Ministry calls on Israeli citizens to avoid travel to Ukraine, including to the city of Uman and its environs.” Orthodox Jews make an annual pilgrimage to Uman to celebrate the year of New Judaism, Rosh Hashanah, while earlier this month Ukraine announced the cancellation of the annual Jewish pilgrimage to Uman due to the security situation.

The statement stated that “Israeli citizens who are in Ukraine are requested to immediately leave the borders of this country,” referring to the “explosive security situation.”

The Israeli Foreign Ministry also warned that consular services could not be provided, as the Israeli embassy does not currently have a permanent presence in Ukraine.
