Iran Urgently Requests an Organization of Islamic Cooperation Meeting for Addressing the Burning of the Koran

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian proposed convening an emergency meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to study the reaction to insulting the Koran.

It happened during a telephone conversation between the Iranian minister and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, to discuss the recent abuse of the Koran in Sweden.

Amir Abdullahyan expressed deep regret over the recent reprehensible and provocative behavior in Sweden and strongly condemned and condemned it.

Amir Abdullahyan proposed at the first opportunity to hold an emergency meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, timed to coincide with the meeting of foreign ministers of non-aligned countries in Baku, to study the reaction to this shameful act.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation said that Iran plays an important role and position in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

He thanked Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Ibrahim Tah for his interest in condemning what happened in Sweden, where he said that an urgent and extraordinary meeting in Jeddah was on the agenda to resolve this issue at the level of ambassadors. and permanent representatives.

Regarding Iran’s proposal to hold an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation foreign ministers on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement meeting in Baku next week, he said he would raise the issue with member states.

In conclusion, the Iranian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the constructive cooperation and support of the OIC Secretariat in opening the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the OIC in Jeddah, as well as facilitating the participation of Iranian delegations in OIC meetings. , emphasizing Tehran’s readiness for any support of the Secretary-General in order to ensure the good performance of the tasks of the organization.
