Inter released Sanchez from his contract in connection with his transfer to Marseille

Veteran Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez ended his contract with Inter a year before it expired in preparation for a move to Marseille, who entered into talks with the 33-year-old some time ago.

Inter announced on their official website that they had reached an “agreement to terminate the contract by mutual agreement”, adding: “The club would like to thank Alexis for the three years he has spent with the team in which he has won three titles and wishes him all the best for the rest of his career.”

The former Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona player has been defending Inter since 2019, first on loan from United before signing for the Italian side.

Sánchez’s departure allows Inter to get rid of his massive €7m after-tax annual salary, according to media reports that Milan’s blue-black Poles paid the Chilean €5m in compensation for terminating his contract before it ended. .

Sánchez, who began his European journey in 2006, notably from Italy but wearing Udinese colors, has struggled to establish himself at Inter, suffering from a host of injuries that plagued him in his first two seasons with him.

But the Chilean striker has had his moments of glory after scoring the decisive Italian Super Cup goal in the last seconds of extra time against Juventus (2-1 after extra time) last season.

Sanchez’s departure from Inter, who left fellow Chilean Arturo Vidal this summer, was expected to be weeks away, especially with the return of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to coach Simone Inzaghi.

Sanchez is expected to join French league runners-up Marseille, according to what Spanish Mediterranean club president Pablo Longoria did on Sunday, who said he was in talks with the 2015 and 2016 Copa América champions. .

In a statement to Prime Video, Longoria said the Chilean “is a personality that fits perfectly with what we want to achieve.”
