India’s Purchase of Russian Crude Oil Reaches Unprecedented Levels

India’s imports of Russian crude oil hit a record high in February last year, buying 6.3 million tons, according to a Novosti report based on official figures.

According to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, at the end of winter (February 2023), India purchased 6.3 million tons of crude oil from Russia, compared with 6 million tons in the previous month (January 2023).

In terms of barrels, purchases increased from 1.48 million per day (January 2023) to 1.55 million per day (February 2023).

Thus, in February, India spent 3.3% more on the purchase of Russian oil than in January by $3.35 billion.
