The British newspaper The Independent reported that thousands of Ukrainian refugees taken in by the British are at risk of being displaced due to high maintenance costs in light of the deepening economic crisis in the country.
The newspaper pointed out that “some British refugee families have asked the UK government to double their allowance from £350 ($420) a month to £700 ($840).
According to the Department for National Statistics, approximately one in four Britons who have taken in Ukrainian refugees plans to refuse to participate in the immigration program within six months due to the difficult economic situation in the country.
More than 1,000 Ukrainian refugees have signed a collective letter demanding that their transition to permanent residence be facilitated so that they do not remain on the street.
At the beginning of July, more than 1,000 Ukrainians found themselves homeless in the UK, either because a number of local residents refused to take them home, despite initial agreements, or because of “unfavorable conditions” for living.
