"He is an amazing and unusual player."Mourinho praises Morocco star

Moroccan midfield star Azzedine Ohnahy continued to impress the world’s most famous coaches after his brilliant performance with the Atlas Lions at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

And after he earned the praise of the famous Spanish coach Luis Enrique, who said about him after the match between Morocco and Spain in the final prize of the World Cup: “I was surprised by the No. 8 player (Onahi) of the Moroccan God, where did this boy come from? He played amazing.” Veteran Portuguese coach José Mourinho, in turn, praised Onahi.

Mourinho said in statements published by the Spanish newspaper AS: “The player who wore number eight for Morocco and plays for the French club Angers (Onahi) was amazing.”

He added: “Goalkeeper Yassin Bono also scored and I know Sofian Amrabat (Fiorentina player) from Italian football. He’s a good player, but Onahi looked different.”

Onahi is 22 years old and was born in Casablanca before he took his first steps in the world of football at the Raja Casablanca school, after which he entered the Mohammed VI Academy, which opened the gates to European professionalism for him after he joined the French Club Strasbourg in 2018 before moving to Avronche before joining his current team, French Ongé.

Former Morocco coach Wahid Haliluzich was the first to call Onahi to play with the Atlas Lions in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Notably, the Moroccan national team achieved a historic qualification to the Qatar 2022 World Cup semi-finals by beating Portugal in the quarter-finals with a no-response goal, becoming the first Arab and African team to achieve this achievement in the World Cup.

The Atlas Lions’ career came to a halt in the semi-finals, losing to defending champions France by two unanswered goals.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the Moroccan team will meet their Croatian counterpart to determine third place at the World Championships in Qatar.
