Guterres expresses "shocked him" On the resumption of hostilities in Ethiopia

UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday expressed shock at the renewed violence in Ethiopia after a five-month truce, calling for an immediate ceasefire.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the resumption of hostilities in Ethiopia,” Guterres told reporters, adding: “I urge an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to peace talks.”

Fighting between Tigray rebels and government forces in northern Ethiopia has resumed for the first time in five months, breaking the truce and hurting hopes for peace talks to end the 21-month-old conflict.

The two camps exchanged responsibility for breaking the truce and resuming hostilities.
