Greek Defense Minister responds to Ankara’s threats to start a war

Greek Defense Minister Nicholas Panagiotopoulos considered that Turkey’s threat to Athens testifies to the recount of Ankara in a provocative manner and does not correspond to the behavior of a NATO ally.

Panayotopoulos said: “This declaration of war is evidence of a provocative recount by Ankara and is inconsistent with the behavior of a NATO ally.”

He emphasized that “Athens is not a source of threat, but does not want to be threatened.”

He added: “The government operates on the basis of national interests and the rules of peaceful coexistence between states in accordance with international law.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu directly threatened Greece and warned Athens against expansion in the waters of the Aegean Sea.
