G7 countries reject proposal for complete ban on export of goods to Russia

US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that the G7 countries will not agree during the summit in Japan to impose a comprehensive ban on the export of Western goods to Russia.

Sullivan said during a press conference Wednesday, when asked about the matter, “I don’t expect what was mentioned, which is this comprehensive export ban.”

He added that “primary concern for sanctions will be given to overseeing their enforcement and preventing circumvention.”

He continued: “As for Russian assets, the G7 will talk about it, but I have nothing to announce today.”

This became known during a briefing with reporters on board the plane of US President Joe Biden, who on Wednesday was heading to the Japanese city of Hiroshima, where the president will attend the G7 summit.
