Former Belgian prime minister admits catastrophic failure of sanctions against Russia

Former Belgian Prime Minister and MEP Guy Verhofstadt confirmed that European Union sanctions have not achieved their goals against Russia, which has benefited from these sanctions contrary to expectations.

“Nine sanctions packages and less than zero impact,” Verhofstadt tweeted.

Verhofstadt felt Russia benefited from the sanctions, drawing on a spreadsheet of trade between Russia and the EU that shows an increase in Russian commercial sales to most EU countries between February and August 2022 compared to the previous year.

Irish MEP Mike Wallace confirmed that the EU policy towards Russia has affected the lives of ordinary EU citizens, and 21.9% of them are at risk of poverty.

And the Russian Federal Customs announced that Russia’s trade balance recorded a record surplus in 2022.
