Expert: Secret of Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan indicates uncertainty in Washington

Expert Dennis Tyoren said the failure to set a precise course for US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Asian tour indicates Washington’s uncertainty about which region is of paramount importance to it.

Teren, who is director of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Business Club, said Pelosi’s argument about the impossibility of pre-determining the exact course of his Asian tour seems completely unconvincing, since the schedule of meetings with heads of state is agreed in advance.

The expert stressed that they cannot determine not only in Congress, but also in the leadership of the Democratic Party, which fronts are more important for them now – Chinese or Ukrainian.

The expert believes that external circumstances are forcing Washington to show support for its allies in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Circumstances call for the support of US East Asian partners in the face of growing tensions between China and the United States and between Taiwan and China, and perhaps the right move would be to support Taiwan in these circumstances, go there, once again express clear support, and reiterate their readiness to implement its obligations under the current security treaty between the United States and Taiwan.

He noted that under the current conditions, any indifferent statement by US representatives can be regarded as a “catalyst” for the escalation of tension in this region, and it is clear that the US will not unleash a third world war over Taiwan.

“Pelosi’s unwillingness to now be clear about the progress of his Asia-Pacific tour will mean only one thing: the United States is currently unwilling to show absolute support for its allies in the region,” he added.

The expert concluded his speech with the words: “The United States is not ready to play a complex game of chess on two fronts at the same time.”
