EU extends sanctions against Russia until February next year

The Council of the European Union has agreed to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation until February 24, 2024.

“Based on the review of the decision … and taking into account the ongoing illegal measures taken by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, a decision was made to extend the restrictive measures until February 24, 2024,” the document, published in the Official Journal of the European Union, reads. .

Since the end of February last year, the EU has approved 9 packages of sanctions against Russia, including financial and trade restrictions, in addition to individual sanctions.

Since last February, the European Union has announced a series of sanctions against 1,386 individuals and 171 Russian institutions and organizations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is within the framework of the West’s long-term strategy, and warned that sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.

Putin stressed that sanctions against Russia will not hinder its development and growth, and that Russia is working to solve all the problems that the West creates for it.
