Rebels in Ethiopia’s Tigray region said on Sunday they were “ready to abide by” a ceasefire following an appeal from the African Union.
The African Union’s call calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in order to start peace negotiations.
“We are ready to respect the immediate cessation of hostilities,” the Tigray People’s Liberation Front said.
They also called on the international community to force the Eritrean army to withdraw from Tigray and take steps to bring the fighting to an immediate end and to put pressure on the Ethiopian government to sit down at the negotiating table.
