On Saturday, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Egypt to operate the first logistics zone with international specifications in the port of Alexandria.

Minister of Transport Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Alexandria Port General Authority, the Engineering and Construction Companies Alliance (SIAC), China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC), and China Roads and Bridges (CRBC) regarding the preparation technical time plan and business model for establishing, managing, operating, operating and investing in the Port of Alexandria logistics zone.

The Minister stated that this signature is in fulfillment of the directives of the political leadership to maximize partnership between the public sector and the international and local private sector in the projects of the Ministry of Transport, the public sector represented by the Port of Alexandria, the international private sector represented by the Chinese (CCCC) and (CRBC), and the local sector represented (SIAC), In addition to attracting investors to projects in the maritime transport sector and achieving a shift in development in the field of maritime transport.

He added that this signing takes place within the framework of a new republic, the foundations of which were laid by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and within the framework of the implementation of the directives of the political leadership to develop all Egyptian ports and increase their trading capacity in order to keep pace with global developments in the field. maritime transport and logistics to make Egypt a global trade and logistics hub.

He emphasized that this logistics zone is the first zone established with the concept of global logistics zones, which is compatible with the new republic, in which all transport industries are developed, including railways, roads, bridges, river transport and the creation of a network of environmentally friendly green electric traction to ensure modern and advanced transport operations, especially since Egypt She is the chair of the Climate Conference from November 2022 to November 2023, pointing out the importance of logistics zones and dry ports in accelerating the circulation and release of goods in seaports and communicating them across railroad with seaports.

The minister explained that this 273-acre logistics zone will feature many industries and areas related to maritime transport, related industries and value-added industries, including the container industry, which is one of the new industries that are planned to be introduced to Egypt.

He noted that the region will implement the first activity of warehousing, import, export, customs storage and re-export, which are the most simple activities, as well as the second activity, presented in the packaging and simple production of agricultural products, small and simple manufacturing industries, and also simple industries based on some oils contained in large containers and tanks, and all industries Added value that contributes to the improvement of the product, whether it is incoming or outgoing.
