Document: US sanctions against Russia do not apply to agricultural products and medical research

The US Treasury Department released a document indicating that US sanctions against Russia do not apply to Russian agricultural products, clinical trials and medical research with Russia.

This came under the new 6C license published by the US Treasury on Tuesday, replacing the previous 6B license issued in July 2022, and includes a number of changes to the sanctions regime.

The license allows operations “related to the production, sale, transportation and presentation of agricultural products, agricultural machinery, medicines, medical products, spare parts and components for them, as well as updating their electronic software.”

Any operations related to preventing the spread of the Corona virus, including medical research and clinical trials related to “Covid-19”, as well as other clinical trials and scientific research in the field of medicine, are excluded from penalties.

The previous license for financial transactions did not concern the provision of agricultural products, but only allowed their production, transportation and sale.

The previous license allowed only operations related to ongoing medical research, while the new license exempted all research from fines.

The US Treasury did not specify the validity period of the new license.
