Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency to Discuss Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant Situation

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi said that he plans to discuss the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant with the delegations of Russia and Ukraine on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

Grossi’s Plans for Discussion

Grossi told Russia’s Novosti news agency on Monday: “I intend to meet with both sides during this week, which I consider absolutely necessary to be useful in this situation.”

Improved Security Situation

Grossi noted that the security situation around the Zaporozhye station has improved.

He said: “We cannot be convinced, and every day is a test for us. So far we have seen some improvements, but the situation in Zaporozhye is still very fragile.”

He added: “There are no bombings at the moment,” adding: “It could happen at any time because this is a war zone.”

Grossi’s Call for Safety

It is noteworthy that Rafael Grossi called for ensuring the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and put forward 5 principles for ensuring its safety at a time when the Russian and Ukrainian sides exchanged accusations of bombing the plant.
