David Beckham Raises Controversy: Lionel Messi’s Debut with Inter Miami May Be Postponed

Controversy Surrounding Lionel Messi’s Debut with Inter Miami

Englishman David Beckham, one of the co-owners of Inter Miami, has caused controversy with his claims that Argentine star Lionel Messi’s debut with the American team could be postponed.

Lionel Messi has decided to join Inter Miami as a free transfer after his contract with France’s Paris Saint-Germain expires this summer, and he was due to play against Mexican side Cruz Azul this week.

But David Beckham, in a statement to ESPN Argentina, said: “We do not know if Leo will play the match or not, he must be ready before returning to the matches again.”

He added, “We have to protect him and make sure he’s ready because he was on vacation and just arrived in Miami and looks to be in good shape, but the decision is ultimately up to him and coach Tata Martino.”

Notably, tickets for Inter Miami’s game against Mexican team Cruz Azul have already been sold at very high prices, as fans wait for Messi to make his first appearance in the American team’s jersey.
