Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said that he met in Havana with a delegation of congressmen of the US House of Representatives to discuss issues of mutual interest.
“The common desire to improve bilateral relations was reaffirmed,” Diaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account.
Officials confirmed that a delegation of at least three US lawmakers visited Havana and met with the Cuban government this week.
The delegation included Rep. James McGovern, Democrat from Massachusetts, Mark Pokan, Democrat from Wisconsin, Troy Carter, Democrat from Louisiana, leaders of the Cuban Congress and the country’s secretary of state.

“We discussed issues of mutual interest,” the Cuban president said, noting also that he expressed the importance of ending the trade embargo imposed by the US government six decades ago.
The meeting follows a series of visits by Biden administration officials in recent months to discuss immigration, and the talks represent a gradual easing of tensions that eased under the Obama administration and intensified under the Trump administration.
