Conditions Set by Hungary for Supporting the European Peace Fund

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Sjarto said his country had agreed to collect the amount of money given to the European Peace Fund under certain conditions.

Ciarto explained that Budapest had agreed to increase the European Peace Fund on the condition that the money added to the budget would be used to solve the problems of illegal immigration, and not to provide Ukraine with additional weapons.

He added: “We agreed to increase the amount of money provided to the European Peace Fund, on the condition that an additional part be allocated to support African countries and the Western Balkans, to increase stability and reduce migration pressure, but we did not agree to finance new arms transfers from these funds. to Ukraine”.

European Union Foreign Ministers agreed on Monday in Luxembourg to increase funding for the European Peace Fund by 3.5 billion euros, which, in particular, finances arms supplies to Ukraine.

The Council of the European Union explained that with the current increase, the Fund’s total funding now stands at 12 billion euros.
