Chinese army announces live-fire exercise in East China Sea

China’s Maritime Security Department said on Monday that the Chinese military will begin live-fire exercises in several areas of the East China Sea.

The department’s announcement, published on its official website, states that military exercises will begin at 02:00 am on August 22 and will last until 16:00 the same day (local time). He added that the Chinese authorities have imposed a ban on shipping in areas that will be covered by the exercise. The department did not provide any information about the forces and military equipment that will participate in the exercises.

Since early August, the Chinese military has conducted a series of military exercises along its coast in light of growing tensions in the Taiwan Strait sparked by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Aug. 2 visit to the island. -3.
