China opposes any contact between Washington and Taiwan

China expressed its opposition to any official contact between the US and Taiwan amid a visit to the island by US Senator Marsha Blackburn.

The Chinese embassy in Washington said that Blackburn’s visit to Taiwan shows that “the United States is not seeking to stabilize the region” and is “interfering in China’s internal affairs.”

The embassy stressed that China “will take decisive action in response to US provocations.”

Marsha Blackburn, a Republican senator, traveled to Taiwan to reaffirm “US support for allies,” she wrote on her Twitter account.

Prior to this, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a number of other US lawmakers visited the island, which China considers part of its territory.
