The Central Bank of Syria denies issuing banknotes of a new denomination

The Central Bank of Syria denied its intention to issue banknotes of a new denomination and called for using official channels to obtain new information.

The Syrian newspaper Al-Watan quoted the regulator as saying: “With regard to what is being circulated regarding the intention of the Central Bank of Syria to issue banknotes of a new denomination, we confirm what was previously announced that the Central Bank of Syria does not intend to issue any a banknote with a new design or a new denomination.”

The bank confirmed that its website and pages on social networks (Facebook page – Telegram application) are the only sources for publishing everything it issues.

Syria’s Economic Crisis

Syria is facing a suffocating economic crisis after more than 12 years of war, worsened by last February’s earthquake and economic sanctions imposed by the West.

Damascus has repeatedly stressed that Western sanctions are affecting the lives of ordinary citizens and are a fundamental reason for the continued deterioration of its economy.
