Stremlaw has been named the public broadcaster’s head of sports, effective Sept. 15.
CBC says he will spearhead the implementation of a new sports strategy, which will focus on multiplatform journalism, amateur sports and partnering with other outlets for major events like the Olympics. Trevor Pilling will continue in his role as head of programming.
Last fall, the CBC secured the broadcast rights for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. The network will partner with Bell Media and Rogers Media to deliver the Games.
Neil McEneaney, CBC’s chief business officer of English services, says Stremlaw brings experience in sports governance, management, production and programming, negotiating sponsorships and building relationships with partners to the table.

During his tenure with Curling Canada, Stremlaw led negotiations to secure the sport’s long-term television success with TSN and RDS and oversaw a national sponsorship portfolio.
