Capello commented on the possibility of Russia joining the Asian Football Confederation

Italian Fabio Capello, a former coach of the Russian national team, called the possibility of joining the Russian Football Union to his Asian counterpart (AFC) a “strange decision”.

And Sport24 quoted the words of Fabio Capello: “Is the Russian team in Asia? I don’t see any connection between Russia and Asia.”

Yesterday, on Friday, the Russian Football Union held a meeting of the executive committee, which discussed the possibility of withdrawing from the European Football Association (UEFA) and moving to the Asian Football Confederation, but no final decision was made.

A UEFA source said earlier on Friday that UEFA does not want to lose Russia’s membership in their organization and they expect Russia to return to European competition after geopolitical tensions subside.

It is noteworthy that the FIFA International Federation and the UEFA European Football Association have suspended the participation of Russian teams and clubs in international competitions since February 28 due to the situation in Ukraine.
