US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement from Beijing on Sunday that the United States and China have made some progress on outstanding issues and can build a healthy economic relationship.
“I think we have made some progress, and I believe we can create healthy economic relationships that will benefit both countries and the world,” Yellen said during an appearance on the US Treasury Department’s YouTube channel.
The US Treasury Secretary also noted that managing the US-China relationship is “no easy task” and expressed confidence that Beijing and Washington will communicate more often than before.
Yelin’s visit to China began on July 6 and will last until July 9.
According to the US Treasury Secretary, this visit provides an opportunity to improve relations between the two countries in order to avoid misunderstandings when the US administration takes steps in the interests of national security.
