British Ambassador to Kyiv Melinda Simmons believed that Western assistance to the Ukrainian authorities could not only change the future of this country, but also pose a threat to Russia.
“Ukraine is capable of arming not only to respond and counter, but also to change the situation regarding how Russia perceives any threat in the future,” the ambassador added.
Ukraine is currently in an “existential struggle,” she said — looking to the future, the help it receives could change its ability to defend itself in the future.
The ambassador noted that the challenge for all countries is that the conflict in Ukraine will not be short.
“The question is not whether we can all provide Ukraine with enough weapons to win? The question is how to achieve long-term strategic change and bring Ukraine’s defense capability up to par with this new threat,” she said.
