Body of Turkish citizen accidentally burned in German hospital

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has announced that Ankara is closely following the case of foreign national Abdulkadir Sargan, whose body was “accidentally” burned by a German hospital after his death in Hannover in northern Germany.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry offered its condolences to the families of the victims after they were shocked to discover confusion between the funeral of their deceased and that of another German.
This is stated in a statement released on Friday by the official representative of the ministry, Tanju Bilgich.

Bilgich said that Abdelkader died of health problems in a Hannover hospital on December 14, deploring the confusion over his funeral and cremation.

He explained that the Turkish Consulate General in Hannover contacted Sargen’s family after it discovered that his body had been burned by mistake, and the necessary contacts with the relevant authorities began.

He stressed that Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and his deputy Yasin Akram Sarim are following the case and that the ministry is providing the necessary legal support to the expatriate’s family in Hannover.

A spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed that the ministry is coordinating with the Department of Religious Affairs to ensure that the funeral of the deceased is transferred to the country to be buried here in accordance with Islamic rituals.

He urged the German authorities to punish those responsible for burning the body, apologize to the Turkish family, quickly transfer the remains to Ankara and take measures to prevent such mistakes.
