Biden signs short budget to avoid government shutdown

The White House announced that US President Joe Biden has signed the country’s draft weekly budget in an effort to prevent a government shutdown due to lack of funds.

The weekly budget will provide government funding for the period Dec. 16 to Dec. 23, preventing a shutdown and giving lawmakers time to agree on a full 2023 budget.
The budget was approved in advance by the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Biden’s signature came just a day after the Senate voted to approve a budget that would leave government spending unchanged for another week.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed the Resolution of the Day by a vote of 224 to 201.
