Biden sent a letter to Congress demanding ratification of the protocols on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO

US President Joe Biden sent a letter to the Senate (Congress) with a request to ratify the protocols on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO.

“I am sending you this document for consultation and consent of the Senate on the ratification of the protocols to the North Atlantic Treaty of 1949 regarding the accession of the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden (protocols),” Biden said in his letter.

He added: “The protocols were signed in Brussels on July 5, 2022 on behalf of the United States and other NATO parties, and a review of them was sent by the State Department to the Senate.”

“Full ratification of the protocols will allow Finland and Sweden to become members of NATO and members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),” he added.

“I ask the Senate to continue to work with my administration in advancing a strong and free Europe by giving quick advice and agreeing to ratify the protocols,” he said.

“We call on all Allies to also act quickly in their certification processes, given current global considerations,” he concluded.
