Beijing condemns reception of Taiwanese delegation in Prague

Beijing condemned Prague’s reception of the Taiwanese delegation, warning the Czech Republic that the move violated the “one China” principle adopted by the European Union to resolve the issue.

The Chinese Embassy in Prague issued a statement calling Taiwan’s parliament speaker Yu Si-kun a “militant separatist” and accusing the Czech Republic of “violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China.”

“China calls on the Czech Republic to respect China’s position and fulfill its commitments regarding the one China policy,” she added.

She added that Beijing “will take all necessary measures to curb Taiwan’s aspirations for independence.”

Like other EU countries, the Czech Republic officially adheres to the “one China” policy, but Prague maintains close ties with the island.

China’s position came after an official Taiwanese delegation led by Parliament Speaker Yu Xi Kong spent four days in the Czech Republic, which currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
