Bayern Munich Agrees to Sign England Captain Harry Kane in Record Deal
According to press reports on Thursday, Bayern Munich have agreed to sign England captain Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in a record deal for a German club worth more than 100 million euros.
Negotiations and Demands
Negotiations between the two clubs continued for several weeks, with Tottenham president Daniel Levy, known for his ability to make deals, demanding a high price for giving up the club’s historic top scorer, noting that Kane’s contract would expire in June 2024 and he may at the end of the transfer with a free deal.
The Deal Announcement
British sports website The Athletic was the first to announce the deal between the two clubs, stating it was worth around €110 million, followed by German website Sky Sports and several British and German media outlets.
Breaking Bayern Munich’s Record
Overall, Bayern Munich, a six-time Champions League winner, does not spend huge sums on player acquisitions compared to many of their European rivals. However, Kane’s announced inclusion amount exceeds Bayern Munich’s previous record of €80m, which he paid for the services of Atlético Madrid’s French defender Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
Filling the Striker Gap
The Bayern side have been looking for a striker since the departure of their top Polish scorer Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, Spain at the end of the 2021-22 season, scoring 344 goals in 375 matches. Bayern suffered from Lewandowski’s absence last season: in his eight years in Munich, the Polish striker averaged 30 goals per season, while no team player scored more than 15 goals last season. Kane’s Impressive Record
As for Kane, he has scored over 20 Premier League goals in six of his last nine seasons and has been top scorer three times.
