Axios: The US is trying to convince Israel in the nuclear deal with Iran

The Axios website reports that the administration of US President Joe Biden is trying to reassure the Israeli authorities about a possible nuclear deal with Iran.

According to Location, Last week, White House officials assured the Israelis that the US was not making concessions to Iran, and vice versa.

A source told Axios: “The deal may be closer than it was two weeks ago, but the outcome is still unclear… In any case, it doesn’t seem imminent.”

For their part, sources in Israel said that the talks were taking place in Vienna: “We are very concerned.”

On August 23, a meeting is scheduled in Washington between the head of the Israeli National Security Council, Eyal Holat, and US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

Despite the controversy over the nuclear agreement, Israel does not intend to enter into open confrontation with the United States, as it did in 2015 when concluding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. “We will not spoil relations with the Biden administration, as Netanyahu did with Obama,” a source told Axios.

In 2015, Iran signed a Joint Comprehensive Action Plan with the G6 (US, Russia, China, UK, Germany and France). The plan called for the gradual lifting of economic sanctions on Tehran in exchange for a reduction in its nuclear program. In 2018, US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal from the agreement and the resumption of sanctions against Iran. It was then that Tehran began to refuse to implement the JCPOA.
