A new release date for Avatar 3
Even when everything was going well, Avatar first of the name took a long time to get its sequel, which, as a reminder, took more than 10 years to see the light of day. The first being released in 2009 and the second very recently, on December 14, 2022. But with the release of Avatar 2: The Way of the Water, the promise was quite different, that of offering Avatar 3 as soon as possible. But as you know, not everything went as planned.
Last June, terrible news hit Avatar fans. We have learned that following the takeover of 20th Century Fox by Disney, the entire schedule has undergone a gigantic upheaval. As a result, the release of Avatar 3 has been postponed, and not just a little. The film was to be released in December 2024, but was finally pushed back to December 2025. For their part, Avatar 4 and the conclusion, namely Avatar 5, will not arrive before December 2029 and December 2031. Otherwise, we will have to be patient.
However, if this new schedule does not delight you, know that it was without counting on the strike of the actors and the scriptwriters.
A possible new postponement?
For two months now, Hollywood has been completely paralyzed. Screenwriters, recently supported by actresses and actors, are indeed demanding better remuneration, but above all a guarantee to limit the use of artificial intelligence in the world of writing. In other words, with technological advances, screenwriters are simply afraid of losing their jobs, and we understand them.
Today, this strike does not only concern a handful of films and series, but the entire American film industry. According to the American magazine The Hollywood Reporter therefore, the filming of Deadpool 3, but also of Lilo & Stitch, of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part. 2 and Venom 3 have been discontinued.
For the moment, nothing has been officially announced for the Avatar films, but it is easy to imagine that this event will put a spoke in the wheels of James Cameron’s films. So, the question we can ask ourselves now is: will the release date for Avatar 3 announced last June be able to be maintained? We imagine that we will get concrete answers very soon.
