Austrian Parliament Member Asserts: Russian Gas Remains Indispensable in Our Nation

Roman Haider, MP for the Austrian Freedom Party, said there were no alternatives to Russian natural gas in his country.

Austrian energy minister Leonor Gossler suffers from a green energy obsession, he said, and despite her previous statements about the “unreliability” of getting gas from Russia, she has no idea how to get rid of gas from Russia.

“The minister is very fixated on green deals. But she has no idea how to turn off Russian gas, so she called gas suppliers to tell her how to do it. And after the meeting, she did not become more aware. that Austria has no alternative to Russian gas,” Haider added.

The deputy stressed that his country receives part of the gas from Germany and Italy, but Vienna “does not want to know where these two countries get this gas from.”

In conclusion, the deputy said: “Therefore, we tend to believe that much more than the declared 64% of gas comes from Russia.”

Last Monday, Minister Leonor Gossler said that Austria still receives most of its gas supplies from Russia. The minister pointed out that getting gas from Russia is an “unreliable” option, and efforts must be made to abandon Russian energy resources.

The European Union has not imposed sanctions on Russian gas imports, but most of its member states, since the start of the special operation in Ukraine, have set themselves the goal of reducing gas purchases from Russia.

For its part, Gazprom has repeatedly stated that it is fulfilling all its obligations to European consumers.
