Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said a ban on Russian gas would harm the EU itself, calling the ban “impossible”.
Nehamer also acknowledged that the situation around Ukraine shows that sanctions against Russia are not acting as quickly as expected.
And Nehamer added at today’s Thursday press conference that Austria is calling for “sanctions that will do more harm to those who impose them than to those who impose them”, so the Austrian position makes it impossible to ban Russian gas, and he said : “And not only because we, the republic, Austria, depend on Russian gas, but also because German industry also depends on it, and if it loses its stability, the same will happen to Austrian industry.”
