Antonov: a repeat of the Caribbean crisis must not be allowed

Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov stressed that the Caribbean crisis of 1962 between Moscow and Washington should not be repeated.

In an article for The National Interest, Antonov noted that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, when “the Soviet Union and the United States were on the brink of a nuclear conflict.”

He continued: “This gives us the opportunity to return to the lessons learned by two great countries from that dramatic period … and I believe that any American will support me so that I do not repeat the dangerous situation that developed in the sixties of the last century. last century.”

He emphasized that “it is important that not only Russia and the United States, but also other nuclear countries have confirmed that a nuclear war is not victorious and should not be waged.”

He pointed out that threats to use nuclear weapons against Russia began to appear in the statements of some US officials.
