Ankara blames Greece and "Frontex" mistreatment of refugees

Ankara has accused Greece and the Frontex agency responsible for guarding the EU’s external borders of being “accomplices in the mistreatment of refugees.”

This came during Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’s response to a question about Greece’s accusations against his country regarding refugees.

Following a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkish States in Istanbul, Davutoglu stated at a press conference that “the track record of Greece and its supporter Frontex is clear” regarding the treatment of refugees, and that many international organizations and institutions have previously stressed what he called them “inhuman treatment” of refugees.

He added that Greece and Frontex are involved in the mistreatment of refugees.

“Trying to appear right, even when you are at the height of injustice, like Greece, is what really requires indifference,” Turkish Anadolu news agency quoted Davutoglu as saying.

He added: “This is something that no one but Greece can do. Of course, we cannot forget about the Greek Cyprus, as it is also very good in this regard.”

Davutoglu’s comments come after Greek Immigration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitrakis released accusations against Turkey that it was responsible for sending dozens of migrants who were found barefoot and naked on the Greek side of the border, which the Turkish presidency denied on Sunday.
