American magazine: Pope Francis believes that NATO is responsible for the conflict in Ukraine

The Foreign Ministry said that Pope Francis supports the view that NATO is responsible for launching Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

Written for the magazine by Fiona Hill, a Russian adviser to former US President Donald Trump, and Angela Stent, professor at Georgetown University, the magazine says Russia believes the American-led West is waging a proxy war against it in Ukraine, and Pope Francis agree with this point of view.

“At the international level, the belief that NATO and the collective West are waging a proxy war against Russia has won many supporters, from renowned scientists to Pope Francis, who said that the conflict in Ukraine could have been provoked in some way,” the article says. .

According to the article, many political scientists in the West continue to argue about NATO’s guilt in fueling the conflict in Ukraine.

“Whether Ukraine wants to join the European Union or NATO or establish bilateral relations with the United States, any of these efforts are an affront to the history and dignity of Russia,” the article says.

In May, Pope Francis told the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that NATO actions near Russia’s borders could prompt Moscow to launch a special military operation.

The Pope admitted that it is difficult for him to answer the question of whether it is right to supply weapons to Ukraine.
