American attempts to catch up with Russia in hypersonic weapons technology

US Navy Admiral Johnny Wolf stressed that the US urgently needs to catch up with Russia in the development of hypersonic weapons technology.

“Before, we had no desire to develop this technology and apply it in weapons systems. There was no need for this. Now we feel the need to catch up,” Wolf told CNN.

He noted that the Pentagon is seeking to increase the pace of testing and research to implement this technology.

The network quoted Tom Karako, director of the missile defense project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, as saying the United States has made it a priority to “catch up” with Russia and China.

He added: “We are doing this not only because they exist (Russian hypersonic missiles), we are doing this for special military needs.”
