The Albanian Interior Ministry announced that it had been hit by a new cyber attack targeting its websites three days after Tirana decided to sever diplomatic relations with Tehran.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, “the information systems of the National Police were subjected to an electronic attack on Friday, which was carried out, according to preliminary information, by the same parties that attacked the public and the government in July. service systems in the country.

In a statement, the ministry continued that “in order to neutralize the criminal act and ensure the security of the systems,” the authorities decommissioned information systems for monitoring sea and air ports and border crossings.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a tweet, condemned “a new cyber attack (performed) by the same attackers previously condemned by Albania’s friendly and allied countries.”

On Friday, the United States announced sanctions against the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and National Security and its responsible minister, Ismail Khatib, after Tirana announced on September 7 that Iran was behind an unprecedented cyberattack that targeted the digital infrastructure of the Albanian government.

For its part, Tehran “strongly” condemned the new US-imposed sanctions on Saturday, stressing that Tirana’s decision to end diplomatic relations was based on “baseless and politically motivated allegations.”
