89 dead in Haitian capital in week of armed clashes between gangs

A week ago, a non-governmental organization reported that armed clashes between rival gangs in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince killed at least 89 people.

The National Human Rights Network said on Wednesday that “at least 89 people have died and 16 others are missing” as a result of these clashes.

She added that this preliminary result also includes “74 wounded who were shot or stabbed.”

Notably, Haiti has seen an escalation of violence between armed gangs in recent months. Violence paralyzed life in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
