Organization leader killed "Al Qaeda" Ayman al-Zawahiri with the American march in Afghanistan

The Associated Press reported on Twitter at dawn Tuesday that a U.S. raid over the weekend in Afghanistan had killed an al-Qaeda terrorist leader.

Quotes Washington Post newspaper Officials familiar with the matter, who they did not name, confirmed the death of Ayman al-Zawahiri.

It was not immediately clear where and when al-Zawahiri was liquidated and what mission the American side was carrying out.

On Monday, the White House said that President Biden would make comments tonight about a “successful counterterrorism operation” but did not mention Zawahiri.

The newspaper reported that the US killed Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda and one of the most wanted terrorists in the world, who led the September 11, 2001 attacks along with the group’s founder Osama bin Laden.

The two men fled from US troops in Afghanistan in late 2001, and Zawahiri’s whereabouts remained a mystery for a long time, while bin Laden was killed during an operation by US troops in Pakistan in 2011.

A top Taliban spokesman said the United States carried out a drone strike on a residential building in Kabul over the weekend.

Zabiullah Mujahid said in a statement that the attack took place on Sunday and the movement condemns it as a violation of “international principles” and a 2020 agreement regarding the withdrawal of US troops.
