Following Spain, Greece rejected the proposal of the European Commission to reduce gas consumption

Greek government spokesman Yannis Economou said that Athens is rejecting the proposal of the European Commission to reduce gas consumption by 15%.

Asked by reporters about the possibility of power cuts in homes and businesses if this measure is implemented, Economo said: “We are doing our best not to be required to implement such proposals. The directions, measures and initiatives of the government are aimed at ensuring that there are no disruptions in the supply chain.

“And I want to say that the Greek government, in principle, does not agree with the proposal of the Commission to reduce the use of natural gas by 15%,” he added.

A Greek government spokesman confirmed that his country had submitted a number of gas price and supply proposals.

He added that these proposals could provide important solutions to overcome the energy crisis in European countries.
