UK Education Secretary: Teenagers can decide to change gender

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said she believes 16-year-olds are old enough to change their gender.

Yesterday, the British government decided to block a bill in Scotland that would allow citizens to apply for a legal gender reassignment from the age of 16.

Asked that the proposed age is not too low, the minister told Sky News: “No, I don’t think so. I worked at 16, paid taxes at 16, and can decide for myself. sixteen”.

The minister stressed that she understands the government’s decision to block the bill proposed by Scotland, since the country cannot have two “potentially competing” pieces of legislation.

In their opinion, there should be no ambiguity in the legislation regarding the recognition of gender and sexuality.

The Minister noted that this issue is not easy, since it is necessary to strike a balance between supporting children and ensuring that the subject taught at school is appropriate for their age.
