Zelensky and Scholz Talked About Plans for Hosting a Worldwide Peace Conference

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had discussed with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz joint preparations for what he called a “peace summit” and the meeting took place on the sidelines of a European Union summit in Chisinau.

Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel: “During a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, we discussed joint preparations for a global peace summit and attracting the largest possible number of participants. I thank the chancellor for supporting the proposed Ukrainian formula for peace and his willingness to participate in its implementation.”

It is noteworthy that Zelensky put forward a “peace plan” consisting of 10 points at the G20 summit.

For her part, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on this initiative, said: “The initiative of the Kyiv regime to hold a peaceful summit at the UN headquarters is a PR move by Washington.”

A senior adviser to the President of Ukraine and European diplomats spoke about plans by Ukraine and its allies to hold a summit of world leaders without a Russian presence in order to rally support for Kyiv’s terms to end the conflict.

Plans for the summit, although tentative, have strong support from European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who are pushing to include countries that have either supported Russia or refused to take a stand on the crisis.

“We need a unified plan for a responsible civilized world that really wants to live in peace,” Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, told the Wall Street Journal.
