Zakharova: Who can deprive Russia of membership in the UN Security Council deserves the Nobel Prize

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova sarcastically remarked that if someone managed to deprive Russia of permanent membership in the UN Security Council, then he would be worthy of receiving the Nobel Prize in mathematics.

Commenting on the permanent membership of Russia, Zakharova added: “The Nobel Prize, and in the field of mathematics, will be awarded if such a mechanism is fully developed by 100% in order to deprive us of the status of a permanent member of the UN Security Council. This scenario is unrealistic if we are talking about law.”

She pointed out that the only way to deprive Russia of the status of a permanent member of the UN Security Council is to amend the UN Charter. Noting that on this issue, two-thirds of the members of the United Nations General Assembly must vote in favor of the amendments and then two-thirds of the Member States of the United Nations, including all permanent members of the Security Council, ratify them.

Zakharova summed up: “There is simply no other legal way to implement such a plan.” She noted that the organization itself was created to prevent wars and catastrophes on a global scale.
