She added: “On the occasion of the first anniversary of the victory of the legitimate Afghan Jihad led by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan against America and its occupying allies, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announces that tomorrow, Monday, 17th Muharram 1444 is an official holiday in all countries.”

Last month, thousands of Afghan clerics swore allegiance to the Taliban but ended a three-day meeting with no recommendations on how the Islamist movement should run the country amid the economic crisis.

Taliban representatives presented the meeting as an opportunity for clerics to evaluate the work of the government. However, the final announcement of the meeting was largely a confirmation of their faith.

Since the return of the Taliban to power last August, the Islamic movement has imposed restrictions on Afghans, especially women, in line with its interpretation of Sharia.
