White House: We are not looking for conflict with China after the balloon accident

White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said the United States does not seek conflict with China after the balloon incident.

“It doesn’t change the fact that we want to avoid conflict with China. We are not looking for conflict with China,” he said in response to a question about the balloon.

He added that the United States “wants to keep channels of communication open with China.”

He referred to the desire of US President Joe Biden to improve relations between Washington and Beijing.

The US military shot down 4 air targets over the past 8 days, including a Chinese balloon. The White House accused China of sending “spy balloons” to five continents, violating the sovereignty of countries.
